Theme children
Surprisingly many children appear in my paintings. As can be expected, there is no relation to my own kids. As far as I can see, the first child appears in a Holy Familiy (Nr. 112) in 1974. The divine child is born! From the same year another astonishing picture, looking quite like an illustration for the fairy-tale Hänsel und Gretel, with a big black-and-white cow. Very peculiar and strange, but strong in effect is a family picture with child from the 'plane phase'. This painting seemed to be a holy familiy also to me, I did hang it several times for a long time each. Curiously it seems to me that Nr. 224 has strong relations to Picassos La Vie (Cleveland Museum of Art, Chester Dale Collection); certainly this is not a paraphrase. |
