Theme paraphrases
The first pieces were mere protest and despair. What shit, this ought to be art? That I could do myself, and even better! Well, go on. But it did not satisfy me. Nevertheless Yves Klein provoked and produced a reaction and production - not bad. Art did not help poor Yves though. That's why I love my simplicity. The second "Klein" was at the same time a declaration of love to my first wife Erika . The case with the shoe is as follows: My uncle in Sudetenland (Czech Republik) owned these shoes and gave them to me when I was a student. Such a thing couldn't simply be bought anywhere. Alas, the gaiter broke, not to be repaired. The screw is from a piano ... but this is another story. The cigar has to do with Daniel Spoerri, the hat with Claes Oldenburg, the sand picture relates to people like Tàpies, and, well, the forest piece points to Picassos paraphrases of Manets 'Breakfast in the Green". There are three more paintings after the breakfast (not shown here). |
