WhoWhatWhere: Who am I? As an artist, I am self-taught. I found my teachers in books and museums. So my art could ripen in secrecy. Central questions had to (and could) be solved by myself:
My first Exhibition was in 1983 (one-man-show, Leopold-Hoesch-Museum Düren, Works 1973 - 1983). In Basel Manifesto (1984, In Honor of Max Beckmann), I condensed my position in 17 theses, i.e. calling art a source of cognition and producing a relation to Max Beckmann. Time was not ripe yet. The "Neue Wilde"dominated the scene. Nobody looked closer. So I took a break, scrutinized my position and my production. Now I come back. Times have changed since. The Neue Wilde are done with. Few names still exist in the market as investment assets. There is still no discussion about quality. The public institutions are under even more pressure. Anyway, I will get into the public. |
